Primary Purpose of DepartmentMaintenance Operations maintains, repairs and operates all buildings, facility systems and infrastructure owned by the University.Primary Purpose of Position

This position supervises the maintenance, repair and operations of the fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems across the campus. It is critical to life safety and fire safety.

Responsibilities

Summary of Position Responsibilities

Leads the shop that maintains and operates all fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems at the University. Ensures compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) life safety requirements.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Graduation from a technical college with a major in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology and;
  • A minimum of four years progressive experience in facility maintenance or an
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Graduation from a technical college with a major in fire alarm systems maintenance and operations and
  • A minimum of 10 years progressive experience in fire protection systems or an
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Certifications/Licenses

  • NFPA Fire Alarm ITM certification or equivalent.

Preferred Certifications/Licenses

  • NICET Level IV Fire Alarm Systems and NICET Level II Water Based Systems Layout or
  • NFPA Water-based Fire Protection System Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance certification or an equivalent.
