Fire Investigator (Certified) – Private Investigation Firm
Location: New York State (Remote fieldwork + on-site investigations)

Job Type: 1099 Contractor (Flexible Schedule)
Pay: $50 – $75/hour (based on experience and certification level)

Chance Compliance and Investigations LLC is a licensed and expanding investigative agency based in New York. We specialize in insurance defense, surveillance, and specialized forensic services. We're seeking experienced Fire Investigators to join our team on a contract basis to handle fire cause and origin cases for insurance carriers, attorneys, and corporate clients.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Conduct fire scene investigations to determine origin and cause
- Document scenes through photography, sketching, and note-taking
- Collect, preserve, and submit evidence for laboratory analysis
- Interview witnesses, property owners, and first responders when required
- Prepare professional, court-admissible reports and maintain accurate case files
- Testify in depositions and court proceedings as needed
- Maintain ongoing communication with our internal case managers and clients
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- Certification: One or more of the following:
- NYS Fire Investigator I or II (OFPC)
- IAAI‑CFI®, NAFI‑CFEI, or equivalent
- Compliance with NFPA 1033 standards
- Minimum of 3 years experience in fire investigation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must carry professional liability insurance
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Familiarity with insurance investigations preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with insurance carriers or law firms
- NYS Private Investigator License (a plus, not required)
- Ability to cover multiple regions in NY (travel compensated)
