Responsibilities
The Fire Protection Maintenance Supervisor ensures high-quality Fire Protection services are provided to the William &Mary community. This includes the supervision of the Fire Protection Maintenance Technicians, and associated outside contractors.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s license and two years of driving experience.
- Significant experience and knowledge in fire protection systems maintenance (fire alarm/fire suppression/special hazard systems)
- Extensive knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools of the fire protection maintenance trade.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with the Virginia Construction Code, Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, and National Fire Protection Standards (NFPA)
- Demonstrate experience with new construction acceptance testing of fire protection systems.
- Ability to apply judgment, knowledge, and experience to assess and determine compliance, collect and review data, and determine the appropriate course of action.
- Ability to use various instruments, methods, and processes requiring analytical skills and judgment.
- Ability to deal effectively with supervisors, peers, subordinates, stakeholder groups, and external agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associated Degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection, or related significant experience in the fire protection maintenance trade.
- National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) training/certification in fire protection.
- Basic Knowledge of fiber optic network systems.
Conditions of Employment
- This position is subject to overtime and schedule changes and may be required to work shifts during weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Incumbent will be required to participate in the Facilities Management “on-call” program.
- This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department, will require reporting to work when the University is officially closed, and is subject to overtime.
