The Safety Manager (SM) reports to the Assistant Director, Safety & Security (ADSS) and works with staff, volunteers and leadership to ensure that they and their constituents are and feel safe. The primary objective of the SM is to manage all operational aspects of the Trinity safety program for a specific property or properties. The SM has on-site supervision of Fire, Life, Safety Directors (FLSD’s) and Fireguards (FG) assigned to individual properties or groups of properties within the Mission Properties portfolio; i.e. 76 Trinity Place, Trinity Church, Saint Paul’s Chapel, Trinity Uptown Cemetery and the Trinity Retreat Center. At times there will be other properties added to the portfolio as Trinity fulfils its business core development objectives. The SM must have a safety compliance focused approach and understands the importance of working with all stakeholders and tenants to achieve an efficient and safe working environment. The SM demonstrates a deep experience and in-depth understanding of corporate and public safety operations, building life safety codes, is familiar with local, state, federal guidelines and industry best practices and procedures. The SM has experience with third-party security vendors, experience in public event settings and working with all segments of the community. This position may assume the duties of the ADSS as needed during absences, emergencies, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Assist DSS/ADSS in creating a facility safety and material handling audit program and ensure compliance of said program.
  • Assist ADSS with ensuring compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Assist ADSS in maintaining oversite of all facility fire and emergency response planning utilizing local, state and federal fire and emergency response planning standards.
  • Assist the DSS and ADSS in executing safety protocols for special events.
  • Serve as corporate champion for industrial hygiene and occupational health & safety by providing expertise, coaching, training, and monitoring programs.
  • Develop and implement safety-related training programs for staff and contractors.
  • Ensure that all fire system inspections, testing & maintenance is scheduled, completed and documented at all facilities.
  • Supervise the Fire Life Safety Director for 76 Trinity Place and other Mission Properties.
  • Ensure FSD's/Fireguards maintain accurate fire and life safety logbooks in accordance with Fire Code.
  • Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that safety standards and government regulations are followed.
  • Conduct periodic quality checks to ensure that safety operations policies and procedures are practiced and remain current.
  • Research environmental regulations and policies to ensure proper compliance at all facilities.
  • Develop and oversee asbestos and lead remediation programs for all construction projects.
  • Evaluate need and manage chemical and biological detection system within critical environments.
  • Create environmental management database for facilities using site characterization, facility permit compliance, tank management, and air monitoring systems.
  • Assist with management of other departmental Safety and Security functions as needed.
  • Perform additional duties, as required.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES

  • BS/BA in one of the following: Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Industrial Safety, Emergency Management etc., or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior Corporate Security, Life-Safety position, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in managing people and customers; strong oral/written communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Strong strategic thinker and planner; ability to apply these skills to attain short-, medium-, and long-term objectives.
  • Advanced skills and understanding of safety in a variety of corporate and public environments.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable life-safety standards, codes, and regulations established by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to effectively manage complex operations.
  • Excellent judgement; strong problem-solving and crisis-management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Professional ethics and values in alignment with Trinity’s Core Values.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate Trinity’s business and building operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

  • Experience in corporate or industrial safety or other related public/corporate safety environment.
  • Second language fluency is notable.
