Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • sprinkler inspections: 1 year (Preferred)
  • NFPA codes: 1 year (Preferred)
  • local fire codes: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • S-12 and S-13 Certificates of Fitness (Preferred)
  • Driver's License (Preferred)

Work Location: On the road

Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Fire Sprinkler & Alarm Inspector I at Relay Fire & Safety is responsible for inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire sprinkler and alarm systems to ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and client requirements. This role involves detailed reporting, customer interaction, and ensuring the highest level of service and safety. The Inspector plays a vital role in safeguarding lives and property through the proactive assessment of fire protection systems.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Perform routine inspections and testing of fire sprinkler and alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes and industry standards.
  • Identify and document deficiencies, malfunctions, or areas requiring repair or upgrades.
  • Ensure proper operation of all system components, including control panels, sprinklers, detectors, and notification devices.
  • Conduct water flow tests, valve inspections, and alarm functionality tests.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks and minor repairs during inspections, as needed.
  • Recommend further repairs or replacements for non-functioning or outdated components.
  • Collaborate with service technicians for follow-up work on identified deficiencies.
  • Document all inspection findings, including test results and deficiencies, using company-approved forms and software.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and client requirements during inspections.
  • Provide detailed reports to clients, explaining inspection results and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records for future reference and compliance audits.
  • Interact professionally with clients, explaining inspection processes and addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Provide excellent customer service, ensuring a positive experience and fostering long-term client relationships.
  • Offer recommendations for upgrades or services that enhance system performance or compliance.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and procedures while on-site.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, including NFPA codes and local regulations.
  • Participate in company training programs to maintain certifications and improve technical skills.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical training or certifications in fire protection systems (preferred).
  • 1-3 years of experience inspecting fire sprinkler and/or alarm systems.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, local fire codes, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools, software, and related technology.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

IDEAL QUALITIES

NICET certification in Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems or Water-Based Systems (preferred or willingness to obtain).
