Responsibilities

Overall Responsibility

We are seeking Fire/Life Safety Engineering Intern for our office in New York, NY or Chadds Ford, PA! The candidate shall support the fire/life safety (FLS) team in executing Arora’s mission of “Improving the quality of life by Rethinking Infrastructure” through this internship opportunity. They shall support Arora’s licensed Fire Protection Engineers and NICET certified designers in their everyday objective of meeting the client’s needs. The candidate shall demonstrate strong communication skills, an analytical approach to problem solving, a curiosity to learn, and passion for the fire/life safety profession.

Essential Functions

Learn and apply the basic principles of FLS engineering to real-world projects.Support the FLS team in the development and delivery of high-quality engineering design documents to clients.Participate in project meetings with engineers, clients, and authorities having jurisdiction.Learn and develop basic engineering contract documents including technical reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations.Learn and develop AutoCAD and Revit drafting skills.Assist in analyzing codes and standards.Assist in the performance of water-based fire protection and fire alarm calculations.Assist in the selection and specification of products.Exercise responsible and ethical judgment in the execution of daily tasks.

Needed Skills

Genuine interest in developing real-world experience in the design of water-based fire protection and fire alarm systems.General familiarity with NFPA codes and standards.General familiarity with model building codes.General familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit computer aided drafting software.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam/Adobe softwareAbility to analyze technical problems in a methodical and detail-oriented manner.Ability to collaborate with team members in both in-person and virtual settings.Ability to communicate technical concepts in both verbal and written format.Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.Education/Experience Minimum: Currently enrolled in a Fire Protection Engineering or Engineering Technology undergraduate program at an accredited university, preferably a junior level status.Work Location: Candidate may choose to be located in either Arora’s Chadds Ford, PA or NewYork, NY office.
