This individual will support traditional security functions while also stepping in to assist with student supervision, crisis response, arrival and dismissal duties, and general school culture. Compensation & Hourly Rate: $25 - $35

Launch compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with experience, along with a full benefits package. Launch will support individuals with obtaining certifications and resources upon hire if applicable. The School Culture and Site Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors while also providing support in a variety of day-to-day operations and student support. This role extends beyond traditional security duties to support student supervision, crisis management, kitchen/food service operations, and coverage for absent facilities team members. This individual plays a critical role in cultivating a calm, safe, and supportive school environment.

Responsibilities

Description Breakdown:

  • School Safety Oversight: Monitor entrances, hallways, stairwells, and community spaces to ensure a safe and secure school environment
  • Student Supervision: Support arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, hallway transitions, and student movement throughout the day
  • De-escalation/Crisis Support: Assist in de-escalating student incidents and supporting students experiencing emotional or behavioral crises
  • Trip & Dismissal Support: Assist with yellow bus coordination and accompany students on field trips as needed
  • School Events & Special Projects: Support setup, security, and flow for school-wide events and testing days
  • Cross-functional Coverage: Serve as backup for the Maintenance & Operations Support Aide when absent
  • Emergency Response: Respond to building emergencies in partnership with school safety officers and leadership

School Safety & Supervision

  • Monitor hallways, stairwells, entrances, exits, and community spaces during school hours
  • Serve as a visible presence at arrival, lunch, and dismissal to promote safety and positive school culture
  • Respond to and de-escalate student conflict, including physical altercations or behavioral crisis
  • Escort students and visitors as needed throughout the building
  • Support School Safety Agents during drills, emergencies, and transitions
  • Enforce visitor protocols and maintain building entry logs.

Crisis & Emergency Response

  • Serve on the school’s Building Response Team (BRT)
  • Respond to real-time emergencies in coordination with School Safety and administration
  • Assist in lockdowns, shelter-ins, and evacuations according to school protocol
  • Support students in crisis or distress in partnership with the Dean or Restorative Justice team.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Serve as back-up cleaner or maintenance staff when needed
  • Support the school kitchen team during lunch setup and cleanup, including trash runs and food service assistance
  • Ride yellow buses during dismissal when student transportation support is needed
  • Support enrichment programming and school events, including set-up and monitoring

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Fluent in Spanish is a MUST.
  • Prior experience in school safety or youth development, preferably within charter or public school settings
  • A calm, composed presence with strong situational awareness and the ability to de-escalate student conflict or crisis situations
  • Flexibility to support various operational needs, including student supervision during lunch, arrival, dismissal, and transitions
  • A strong understanding of school operations and the importance of creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
  • Exceptional -building skills and the ability to collaborate with school staff, students, families, and external partners
  • Ability to assist with yellow bus transitions, support school events, and step into the role of cleaner or kitchen aide as needed
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Compliance Requirements: NYS Security Guard License, DOE fingerprinting clearance, BRT/FDNY safety training, and crisis intervention certification (preferred - Launch will support individuals with obtaining licenses upon hire)


Requirements for Role (must be obtained within 30 days of hire) - Launch will support individuals with obtaining certifications and resources upon hire if applicable.

  • DOE Fingerprinting: Required for school access and working in direct contact with students
  • NYS Security Guard License: Required for performing school security responsibilities
  • FDNY Fire Guard Certification (F-01 or F-03): Required to support building safety procedures and manage fire drills
  • Food Handler’s Certificate (DOHMH): Required for assisting with SchoolFood and kitchen operations
  • CPR/First Aid Certification: Required to provide emergency health support and response
  • Crisis Intervention/De-escalation Training: Required to support students experiencing emotional or behavioral distress
