WSP is currently initiating a search for on-call Emergency Managers - Safety to work out of any of our US offices, including Orlando, FL; Birmingham, AL; Tucson, AZ; Sacramento, CA; Denver, CO; Washington, DC; Tallahassee, FL; Atlanta, GA; Honolulu, HI; Indianapolis, IN; New Orleans, LA; Kansas City, MO; Raleigh, NC; New York City, NY; Oklahoma City, OK; Portland, OR; Exton, PA; Columbia, SC; Dallas, TX; and Houston, TX. We are seeking individuals who are eager to assist during disasters on an on-call basis as a reservist employee, with the availability to deploy with little or no advance notice and for potentially long durations. This position is not a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Lead Emergency Management team, providing services to clients responding to disasters nationwide and in US territories.
- Manage Emergency Operations Center and/or Field Staging Area operations prior to, during, and post-disaster.
- Lead and perform oversight of on-site duties including logistics, supply, cost/documentation and/or resource unit functions.
- Attend periodic training throughout the year to maintain deployment eligibility.
- Support Emergency Management Project Management functions.
- Responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal heal and safety guidelines and procedures.
- Ensure the safety of all employees, making sure all projects are up to code, and provide advice and recommendations for safety improvements.
- Prepare written reports on their findings.
- Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or similar/related concentration.
- 5+ years experience in safety and health related environment.
- Broad knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, methods and techniques.
- Skill in recognizing hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions, developing measures to eliminate or control these conditions and effectively communicating the appropriate measures to resolve these problems is essential.
- A practical knowledge of the methods, techniques and procedures applied by industrial hygienists and environmental and fire prevention engineers is frequently necessary.
- General knowledge of the EM385-1-1 methodology and familiar with EPP and SPCC.
- OSHA 30 Industrial Industry or OSHA 30 Construction Industry Safety certifications, and competency maintenance though 8 hours of formal training every year.
- Broad knowledge of Emergency Management principles, methods and techniques.
- Travel Required - Must be able to deploy to disaster area, with little or no advance notice and potentially for long durations, which could be up to a minimum of 30 days.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Emergency Management (or related field).
- Asset Management and Supply Logistical Operational Experience.
- Previous experience managing Field Staging Areas or state Emergency Operations Center or related environment.
- FEMA Emergency Management Institute Independent Study - Professional Development Series certification (IS-100/102/200/700/800/815).
- 40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER certification, which would also require being able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
- DOD AT1, First Aid/CPR/AED and OSHA 30 (in General Industry or Construction Industry Safety) certifications.
- EM385-1-1 certification.
