We're seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Alarm Technician to join our dynamic, team-oriented shop!

In this role, you’ll play a key part in the preventative maintenance, testing, and repair of fire alarm and electronic access control systems across UAF’s main campus and remote sites.  This including hardware, software, and data integrations. You'll work closely with other departments, vendors, and technical staff to ensure secure, compliant, and reliable operations of these critical building systems.

This recruitment may be used to hire someone at either the CT1 or CT2 level depending on qualifications.

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Salary Information: CT1 /Step 1 $25.66/hr.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 Hands-on support with fire alarm controls, devices, and panels

 Assist with annual and semi-annual inspections, system audits, and hardware upgrades

 Troubleshoot and repair low-voltage access systems and associated equipment

 Respond to user access requests and provide front-line technical support

 Participate in system design, installation, and collaborative problem-solving efforts

Job Requirements

What You'll Need to Succeed:

 Strong analytical and organizational skills

 Excellent communication and customer service abilities

 Confidence in technical writing and explaining systems to a range of users

 Experience with low-voltage wiring systems

 Flexibility and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities

Minimum Qualifications:

Electrical experience preferred but not required—we’re willing to train the right motivated individual.

Apprentice level or other equivalent certification appropriate to the electrical or electronics trades; with a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in alarms, electronics, CCTV, and/or Access control.

Must have and maintain a valid Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

CT2 - Education and/or Experience: Journeyman level or equivalent certification in a specialized field including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing or electrical; or a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

*REQUIRED* Must be able to pass a federal background check (CJIS).
