The Lead Fire Alarm Testing & Inspection Technician is responsible for overseeing and performing inspections, testing, and maintenance of commercial fire alarm and life safety systems. This role leads inspection teams, ensures work is completed accurately and efficiently, and guarantees compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and customer requirements.

Schedule:

  • Hours will vary, must be able to work on-call, weekends, nights, split shifts, and rotating shifts (if needed).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise technicians performing fire alarm inspections in commercial facilities.
  • Plan daily inspection tasks, assign responsibilities, and ensure proper workflow.
  • Train junior technicians on testing procedures, device types, and safety practices.
  • Perform and oversee inspections and functional testing of fire alarm systems, including:
  • Inspect smoke and heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances (horns, strobes, speakers), control panels and modules, power supplies, batteries, and supervising station communication
  • Conduct annual, semiannual, and quarterly inspections as required by NFPA 72 and local codes.
  • Accurately document all findings, deficiencies, and system conditions.
  • Ensure proper testing procedures are followed for integrated systems (sprinkler, suppression, elevators, access control).
  • Coordinate inspection schedules with building owners, facility managers, and contractors.
  • Ensure all equipment, testing tools, and documentation are prepared before inspections.
  • Communicate deficiencies and recommended corrective actions to customers and project managers.
  • Submit inspection reports, device counts, and required documentation in a timely manner.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ experience in fire life safety testing
  • Knowledge of CCR Title 19 Forms
  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Valid California Driver License and proof of auto insurance.  

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to drive for 2+ hours in a work shift/day, daily.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, hear, and speak, daily.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, under all temperature variations.
  • Work environment may be construction sites, commercial buildings, and high-rise buildings,
  • Ascend/Descend and work at heights above 6ft and extreme heights, occasionally
  • Move/Transport/Install/Remove items weighing 20+ pounds, daily
  • Pushing/Pulling using upper extremities, daily
  • Position self to work in confined spaces, occasionally
