We are seeking a Fire/Life Safety Designer or Engineer for our office in Dallas, TX! The candidate will be responsible for fire/life safety (FLS) system engineering in accordance with our mission of “Improving the quality of life by Rethinking Infrastructure”. The ideal candidate must independently develop FLS designs that adhere to codes, standards, and project specifications while ensuring client needs are met. Strong communication skills are required to collaborate with internal and external team members during the design process.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technically accurate, complete Fire Protection documents to clients that adhere to all code requirements, company specifications, and engineering standards of practice.
  • Analyze and develop conceptual, working, and detailed design of Fire Protection systems for new and existing facilities.
  • Develop project scope, schedule, phasing, staging, specific site issues, and pertinent code issues.
  • Coordinate Fire Protection designs with building architecture, structure, and systems.
  • Perform site surveys, submittal reviews, inspections, respond to RFIs, and generate punch lists.
  • Communicate with co-workers, technical resources, external consultants, clients/owners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.

Secondary Functions:

  • Support FLS team members in the development of conceptual, working, and detailed design of Fire Alarm and Non-Water Based Suppression systems for new and existing facilities.
  • Perform Quality Assurance Quality Control (QAQC) of FLS designs.
  • Participate in local FLS organization meetings.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with a minimum of 2 years’ experience related to fire protection.
  • Preferred Education/Experience: Professional Engineering (PE) licensure or Engineering in Training (EIT) with ability to obtain PE licensure. Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technology with 5-10 years’ experience in fire protection engineering related work.
  • Preferred Certifications: NICET Level III certification in Water Based System Layout; Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS); Additional NICET Certification in Special Hazard Suppression Systems, Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Systems and/or Fire Alarm Systems.

Needed Skills:

  • Detailed FLS design knowledge as it applies to water-based fire protection systems including but not limited to water supplies, sprinkler system layout, standpipe design, fire pumps, and system interfaces.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2012 or higher, Revit 2012, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic fire protection modeling software such as HydraCAD or SprinkCalc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.
