THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an Fire Alarm Helper with basic programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting capabilities and experience. This position will work closely with our sales team, field project teams, and clients to ensure a sound design, and seamless installation and commissioning of our fire alarm solutions. This is a key position for our growing team and requires attention to detail in all aspects of executing projects. Customer and employee interface requires a high degree of effective human relations. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are important elements of the position.

Responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!)
· Assist with producing field surveys and daily project logs of activity.
· Assist with the programming and commissioning of fire alarm systems leading to the final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
· Assist in the production of detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA.
· Assist with complex troubleshooting and effective resolution.
· Assist in delivering projects on schedule and within cost budgets.
· Assist with programming systems via laptop computers.
· Provide support, guidance, and expertise to the other technicians.
· Comply with industry standard procedures and Sciens safety programs/policies.
Job Requirements
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Up to two years of experience within the fire-life safety industry.
· Ability to program and commission small mid-range fire alarm systems.
· Basic understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and how to troubleshoot for circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions.
· Ability to perform basic repairs to a fire alarm system such as the replacement of batteries or field devices.
· Basic understanding of small systems programming.
· Ability to learn and safely use standard trade tools.
· State, local, contract, and/or product-specific certifications determined by the business.
· Actively pursuing NICET I or higher certification.
· Desire to learn how to read and interpret drawings.
· Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
· Ability to work independently with some supervision.
· Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and able to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
· Effective organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
· Be physically fit to perform the demanding work of the trade, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, maximum occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; able to work from heights and climb ladders; standing and walking for most of the workday.
· Ability to travel occasionally overnight, as needed.
· Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
· Valid driver’s license & reliable transportation.
