Location: Omaha, Miami, or New York.

We are seeking a Fire Protection Designer to develop fire sprinkler plans and specifications for architectural projects throughout North America.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  1. Use AutoCAD and other software to create fire protection construction document packages that include drawings, construction specifications, and reports.
  2. Design fire protection systems, including all associated devices, equipment, and specifications.
  3. Prepare superior-quality fire alarm device layouts and riser diagrams.
  4. Perform all required calculations to support design decisions.
  5. Coordinate with local utility companies to provide the required utility services to the project.
  6. Coordinate with equipment vendors and manufacturers’ representatives for the election and specification of appropriate equipment.
  7. Provide construction administration (CA) services, including answering requests for information (RFIs).
  8. Coordinate with the client, the MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is consistent with the client’s vision, to identify and resolve areas of conflict, to ensure a fully coordinated interdisciplinary design, and to ensure the design schedule is maintained.
  9. Participate in meetings and conference calls when necessary.
  10. Become familiar with the codes that apply to the project.

Job Requirements

What we are looking for:

  1. In possession of an Associate’s degree or higher in Fire Protection Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Drafting, or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical, Electrical or Fire Protection.
  2. Previous fire protection design experience involving fire sprinklers, fire pumps, and standpipe systems with an MEP/FP engineering consultant or design/build contractor.
  3. Knowledge of NFPA 72 codes and industry fire and fire life safety standards.
  4. NICET Level 2 or Higher and Auto-Sprink experience a plus.
  5. Previous experience with AutoSprink Fire Sprinkler Design software or other software.
  6. Exceptional communication and organization skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.
  7. Ability to work independently and efficiently upon receiving necessary direction and information.
  8. Thrive in fast-paced environments with a desire to work efficiently.
