Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Fire Extinguisher Service Technician works in our service shop and is responsible for maintenance, recharge, hydrostatic testing, and repair of portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA 10 and DOT regulations. This role ensures that extinguishers returned to service meet the highest safety and compliance standards.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Perform maintenance and recharge of suppression system equipment using approved tools and procedures.
  • Conduct hydrostatic testing in accordance with NFPA 10 and DOT requirements.
  • Inspect, disassemble, and replace worn or damaged components.
  • Apply new tags, seals, and labels following service.
  • Maintain organized shop inventory of parts, extinguishers, and equipment.
  • Ensure accurate completion of service records and compliance documentation.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and proper handling of pressurized cylinders.
  • Support field technicians with replacements and repairs as needed.
  • Stay current on NFPA and DOT requirements for extinguisher servicing.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 1–3 years of experience servicing portable fire extinguishers (preferred).
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 10 and DOT cylinder handling/testing requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

IDEAL QUALITIES

  • DOT hydrostatic testing certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset.
