Parsons has a position for a Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) to join the Fire Protection Engineering team in support of various industrial, commercial, transportation, and water projects who either has a PE or is ready to take the exam within a year. Parsons provides a broad array of engineering design services to its clients including Fire and Life Safety Engineering and Fire Protection System Design. This role would be based in Charlotte, NC but open to remote work as well.

Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and oversee engineering activities including project execution Conduct Fire Protection Engineering inspection, studies, design, and complex calculations Complete site surveys and identify code issues and offer compliant solutions Perform interpretation and application of local, state, and federal requirements, and regulations, relative to all aspects of fire protection and life safety Prepare and present technical audits, reports, and exhibits Design fire suppression system, fire alarm system, and prepare technical specifications Ability to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills Visit construction sites (commissioning witness, As Built Veification/Generation) or which requires frequent travel with overnight stay. Estimate 10-40% travel per year. With minimal support, carrying out and reviewing fire engineering calculations including smoke exhaust and evacuation analysis. Ability to mentor Junior Staff Review/Create Architectural Life Safety Code Analysis. Requires specific knowledge of the IBC and NFPA 101. Review fire protection submittals (Shop Drawings for construction) for code compliance prior to submittal to the AHJ for permitting. Extracts engineering information from CAD drawings. Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs. Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses. May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances. May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters. Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Fire Protection Engineering and 8years of related work experience. Professional Engineer registration may be required, or ability to obtain within a year of hire. Possess certifications, training, and working knowledge of all ICC and NFPA codes and standards including NFPA 13, 14, 11, 15, 16, 20, 22, 24, 25, 2001, 70, and 72. Experience in using AutoCAD, Revit, and Hydraulic Calculation software including HASS, and AutoSPRINK. Ability to design fire alarm, fire suppression, and life safety systems using Revit is preferred. US citizenship is required. The anticipated annualized full time target compensation (median) for this position is:$100,000.00.
