Fire Safety Director
Job Description
We are seeking multiple experienced Fire Safety Directors (FSDs) to join our team at a high-profile commercial property. This is a critical safety leadership role responsible for ensuring full compliance with fire and life safety regulations while maintaining a secure, prepared environment for tenants and staff.
The ideal candidate will have strong working knowledge of building operations, including HVAC, elevators, electrical, and other mechanical systems, along with a proven ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
F-89 Certificate REQUIRED – Must be active and carried at all times while on duty.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Weekends as needed
Work Location: In person
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce fire and life safety procedures in compliance with FDNY, NYC Fire Code, and building regulations.
- Conduct frequent inspections of all areas of the building to identify fire and safety hazards.
- Respond immediately to alarms, emergencies, and incidents involving fire, smoke, or mechanical failures.
- Supervise fire drills, evacuation procedures, and emergency response coordination.
- Maintain accurate and legible records of inspections, incidents, drills, and safety training.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with FDNY and emergency personnel during incidents.
- Work collaboratively with building management, engineering, and security to ensure all safety measures are upheld.
- Monitor and report issues with elevators, HVAC systems, electrical panels, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and other mechanical systems.
- Stay informed on current fire safety regulations and technologies, and implement updates as needed.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- F-89 Fire and Life Safety Director Certificate – Must be current and in-hand at all times while on duty.
- Previous experience as a Fire Safety Director in a commercial building setting is required.
- Must be able to prepare clear written reports and maintain detailed logs.
- Ability to read and understand operating procedures and technical safety documentation.
- Strong leadership and communication skills; must be able to interact with tenants, staff, and first responders.
- Ability to remain calm and make decisions quickly under pressure.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and a neat, professional appearance are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with building systems including:
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)
- Elevator systems and operations
- Electrical and lighting systems
- Fire alarm and sprinkler control panels
- CPR, AED, or First Aid certification is a plus.
- Experience with BMS (Building Management System) or BAS (Building Automation System) is a plus.
