MFE Safety & Fire Prevention Team

The MFE Safety & Fire Prevention Team is dedicated to directly protecting MFE and tree crews through safety, prevention, mitigation, and maintenance activities on PG&E and SMUD properties or rights of way during the high fire season. In addition, the team provides safety standby services to MFE employees and subcontractors who are performing routine and high-risk work activities. The team comprises a Fire Prevention Team Leader and Fire Prevention Technicians, who operate vehicles equipped to meet the capabilities similar to a Type 6 wildland fire engine.

Position Summary

Fire Prevention Technicians operate under the general supervision of the Fire Prevention Team Leader. Typical duties include providing emergency first aid at MFE work sites, conducting safety inspections, asset protection standby during high-risk operations, applying fire retardants, emergency medical response, and other related duties as assigned.

ob Locations

Positions are based in critical fire-threat areas within the regions MFE serves, including but not limited to North California high-risk fire areas. These locations are subject to change based on business needs and operational demands.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties

·        Provide emergency first aid and medical standby at work sites.

·        Conduct safety inspections, including fuel hazard assessments.

·        Support fire prevention efforts by applying retardants and accompanying vegetation management crews during operations to prevent wildfire ignitions.

·        Asset protection and emergency response at MFE facilities and field operations.

·        Participate in fire mop-up operations as authorized.

·        Monitor weather conditions during critical fire weather.

·        Maintain current EMT/CPR/AED certifications and physical fitness standards.

·        Engage in ongoing safety training and emergency drills.

·        Required to maintain a valid Class C driver's license and participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program.

Secondary Duties

·        Guide and support mutual aid and external crews during major wildfire events.

·        Support debris cleanup and facility inspections post-events.

·        Assist in fire safety training and the development of fire response strategies.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

·        At least 18 years of age.

·        High school diploma or GED.

·        Valid California Class C driver's license from day one of employment.

·        Ability to work in diverse weather conditions and drive safely under various road conditions.

·        Willingness to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

·        EMT certification recognized by a California LEMSA.

·        Basic wildfire safety training from accredited programs.

·        Physical capability to pass the company's required assessments.

Desired Qualifications:

·        Three years of fire protection experience.

·        Associate degree in Fire Science, Forestry, or a related field.

·        Experience with local government or wildland agencies.

·        Advanced wildland fire behavior and human factors training.
