Job DescriptionAt IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for an experienced Lead Plumbing & Fire Protection Group Engineer to join our team based at our office in Germantown, Maryland.
In this role, you will oversee the entire design process or assist as a technical expert on a specialized design.

- Assesses the requirements of a project, breaks a project into tasks, and works with a Project Manager to determine the scope of work, budget, and staffing.
- Writes scope of work for mechanical or utility design based on preliminary review and meetings with the client.
- Prepares engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyzes the operation of existing systems.
- Works with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to building codes is required.
- Assigns and reviews the work of the project design team.
- Check the progress of work and alert the Project Manager to changes in scope or additional services.
- Reviews contractor application for payments.
- Has a thorough understanding of the construction process.
- Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within the company and externally with clients and other design professionals.
- Prepares or reviews construction budgets based on experience and scope of the project.
- Promotes use of and participates in the development of company design and production standards.
- Assists in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
- 10+ years' previous design experience.
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Registered Professional Engineer strongly preferred.
- Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting.
- General knowledge of system design and applicable codes in specific discipline-related areas (Mechanical, Structural, Plumbing, Electrical, or Process).
Context, Environment, & Safety
- Travel duration, if any, is based on project complexity and location.
- This position is a safety-sensitive position.
- The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.
All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.
