The Safety (HSE) Manager position is a 12+ month contract position supporting a greenfield industrial manufacturing facility being constructed near Sumter, S.C.Safety (HSE) Manager Position Overview:The Safety (HSE) Manager serves as the subject matter expert on all aspects of the health, safety, and environmental protocols for all personnel on a new/greenfield capital construction project. Safety (HSE) Manager is responsible for ensuring the work environment is free from hazards, conducts investigations, safety training, and audits when necessary. Safety (HSE) Manager will collaborate with all capital construction departments on a daily basis to ensure the safety of all personnel.

Responsibilities

Safety (HSE) Manager Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:• Support and foster a culture of safety on an ongoing capital construction project.• Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.• Safety (HSE) Manager will investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.• Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.• Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations..• Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.• Investigate health-related complaints and inspect facilities to ensure that they comply with public health legislation and regulations.• Collaborate with engineers or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.• Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.• Safety (HSE) Manager develop or maintain medical monitoring programs for employees.• Maintain or update emergency response plans or procedures.• Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.• Collect samples of hazardous materials or arrange for sample collection.• Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.• Safety (HSE) Manager will conduct audits at hazardous waste sites or industrial sites or participate in hazardous waste site investigations.• Perform physical inspections of samples to detect disease or to assess purity or cleanliness.• On Call to assist as needed in case of emergency.• Writes, revises, and implements Safety policies, processes, and procedures.• Develops programs and procedures to prevent incidents and taking corrective action when necessary. Implements changes to procedures, standards, and use of equipment when necessary.• Safety (HSE) Manager regularly monitors proposed and new regulatory developments and recommends compliance strategies.• Provides site specific and governmental training to all employees to ensure understanding of the requirements and employees’ roles and responsibilities for identifying and resolving Safety issues.

Job Requirements

Safety (HSE) Manager Education/Experience Requirements:• 10+ years of HSE Management experience in an industrial construction and/or manufacturing environment is required.• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field preferred.• Certified Safety Professional preferred (i.e., OHSA 30, etc.).• Previous commissioning or capital construction experience in a plant environment is required.• Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.• Proficiency in MS Office required• Ability to recognize and eliminate hazards and to ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures• Experience in plant operations (instrumentation, electrical, piping, rotating equipment, and management).• Candidates should be able to commute to the Sumter, S.C. area on a daily basis, for the life-cycle of the project. Per diem will be provided for non-local candidates.
