Here's the Gist
Maintains and repairs the facility’s equipment, including plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Performs skilled trades work, such as pipe fitting, pump repair, rigging, boiler and chiller maintenance.  Works with manufacturing or process engineering in the installation or repair of building plumbing and wiring required in the production process. Makes periodic or special inspections of the premise to determine repair work necessary. Works from blueprints, drawings or rough sketches.

  • The ideal Fire and Life Safety Systems Technician will be able to perform a high degree of problem identification and troubleshooting assignments and participate effectively in a team environment.
  • This technician will work a 8-hour Monday - Friday, with rotating weekend (on-call) schedule, and will work at our main campus in Marcy NY.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Life Safety Manager and Staff with day-to-day operations of fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Manage and maintain the TGMS system and PM activities
  • Perform and/or oversee required inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Request and maintain fire detection and suppression system components for expeditious repairs.
  • Identify and correct problems with fire detection and suppression system components and network.
  • Perform troubleshooting of the fire detection systems.
  • Report and track fire detection and suppression system performance indicators.
  • Assist in the development and revision of written fire system programs.
  • Assist in the development and design of new fire systems and forward recommendations to appropriate engineers.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience as fire system technician required with detailed understanding of Fire Protection and Fire Alarm systems that include: VESDA, Hazard Fire Suppression Systems, Sprinkler Systems (Wet, Dry, Pre-Action, Deluge), Fire Alarm, or Detection Devices (Smokes, Heats, Duct), schooling for NICET level 1 or a Fire Alarm License can count towards years of experience.
  • Professional experience and training in instrumentation and controls preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Knowledge of local and national codes that include: International Fire Code, NFPA 10, 13, 25, 72 and OSHA
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift 25 lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs when assisted
  • Must be comfortable with heights, working on ladders or lifts or in confined space
