Position Overview:
We are seeking a Building Code & Fire Safety Inspector with hands-on knowledge of NYC construction codes, fire safety standards, and building inspection processes. This role involves performing detailed field inspections, preparing compliance reports, and coordinating with design, construction, and legal teams to close out violations and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: $85,071.00 - $121,572.00 per year

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site inspections for DOB and FDNY-related compliance (firestopping, fireproofing, egress, energy code, accessibility).
  • Prepare inspection reports, TR1/TR8 documentation, and Certificates of Correction.
  • Identify and document violations, unsafe conditions, and code deficiencies.
  • Review drawings, permits, and prior approvals to ensure consistency with field conditions.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve open violations.
  • Assist in audits, Local Law compliance (LL26, LL95, LL97), and fire safety assessments.
  • Participate in pre-construction safety planning and ongoing fire-life safety inspections.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in building inspections, code enforcement, or fire safety compliance.
  • Strong understanding of NYC Building Code, Fire Code, and Energy Code.
  • Licensed or certified in one or more relevant categories (NYC DOB Special Inspector, FDNY COF, NFPA certifications preferred).
  • Proficient in digital inspection software and report generation tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and comfortable navigating DOB NOW, FDNY portals, and related systems.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with Local Laws: LL26, LL84, LL87, LL95, LL97, LL126, and FISP cycles.
  • Prior work with architectural, engineering, or code consulting firms.
  • Background in construction, architecture, or MEP systems.
