We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fire Engineer to join our innovative engineering firm. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in fire science and fire modeling. Pay: $90.00 - $125.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Torrance, CA 90501
Responsibilities
Duties
- Design, develop, and implement fire safety systems within a manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Utilize CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Creo to create detailed schematics and layouts for fire suppression and safety equipment.
- Program and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to automate fire detection and suppression systems.
- UL 9540A thermal runaway fire propagation analysis.
- Explosion risk evaluation (VCE hazard)
- Conduct root cause analysis of fire-related incidents or system failures to identify underlying issues and develop corrective actions.
- Integrate robotics, vision inspection systems, and industrial equipment into safety protocols to enhance operational safety measures.
- Collaborate with process engineers to optimize manufacturing workflows, incorporating lean manufacturing principles for efficiency improvements.
- Oversee fabrication, tooling, and assembly line modifications related to fire safety components.
- Deflagration venting evaluation (e.g., Tesla sparkers and vents).
- Ensure all fire safety systems meet ISO 9001 standards and adhere to industry best practices for continuous improvement.
- Code compliance with 2022 CFC §1207, NFPA 855, and relevant UL standards.
- Develop detailed schematics and technical documentation for system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in project scheduling, planning, and coordination activities to ensure timely completion of safety upgrades or new installations.
- Firefighting strategy development and first responder recommendations.
