We are seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer with NICET Sprinkler Design certification to join our small team. This is an in-person role that involves the design of fire sprinkler systems in various settings, both independently and in a small team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong design background and be proficient in design software including AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring that all systems meet safety standards and regulations. As a Fire Sprinkler Designer, you will play a crucial role in protecting lives and property through effective fire safety solutions.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Design and layout sprinkler systems according to industry standards and local codes using specialized CAD software packages that are based on the AutoCAD platform.
  • Collaborate with engineers on system design and layout for new installations.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients regarding fire safety practices and system operation.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes related to fire protection.
  • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components. Perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems based on the building type, construction type, hazard classification and architectural features.
  • Perform field check of completed design to verify accuracy, if required.
  • Work closely with the Estimation department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review the scope sheet and requirements of each project.
  • Coordinate projects to meet delivery dates.
  • Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
  • Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials.
  • Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
  • Actively participate in predesign and review meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for cost-saving measures and quality improvement.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Skills

  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to understand complex systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for system design.
  • Proficiency in Revit software for system design.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Visualizes 3D concepts and solves basic mathematic problems, including geometry and algebra.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards, and in reading and interpreting construction documents.
  • Must obtain and retain any licenses that are required by national, state/province, and local codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced service/construction team environment.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
