Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.

Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.

Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. This is a 40 hour work week; five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be discussed with supervisor.

Purpose

To provide journey level work associated with fire sprinkler systems. Responsible for providing journey level work in the testing, repair, inspection, maintenance, and operation of fire sprinkler systems.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Performs journey-level work in the testing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems to meet NFPA codes using hand tools and monitoring devices.
  • Performs both routine and preventive maintenance on fire sprinkler systems.
  • Provides information to management for new projects and deferred maintenance planning.
  • Reviews designs and maintains proper documentation to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and university construction standards.
  • Maintains inventory control and inspects test equipment for safe and proper operations.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Coordinates work with outside contractors.
  • Performs work from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Performs other job related functions as assigned. Will participate in the On-Call program.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience in journey level installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of electronic equipment, systems, and components.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree in a technical field. Be knowledgeable of the Fire Water Distribution Loop and be product knowledgeable. More than two years of the described experience. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member. Customer service oriented. Computer skills. NICET Certification in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems and/or Water Based Systems Layout. Master Plumber License. AutoCAD experience. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.
