About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing MEP engineering firm serving the Greater Boston market, is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join their team. This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex fire protection and life safety design work across mission critical (data center), healthcare, and life sciences projects, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in client-facing project delivery.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do
You will lead fire protection design efforts on mission critical, healthcare, and life sciences projects from concept through construction administration, including fire suppression system design (wet, dry, pre-action, and clean agent systems), fire alarm and detection system design, and life safety/egress analysis. You'll coordinate closely with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural teams to deliver fully integrated MEP solutions, while also managing client relationships and presenting design recommendations directly to owners, architects, code officials, and contractors. Reviewing and stamping construction documents, specifications, and hydraulic calculations will fall under your scope, along with mentoring junior and mid-level engineers on technical standards and best practices. You'll also stay current on codes relevant to critical facilities, healthcare, and life sciences environments, including NFPA 13, NFPA 72, NFPA 99, NFPA 75/76, NFPA 2001, and local Massachusetts amendments.
Job Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or closely related field)
- Minimum 7 years of fire protection engineering experience within an MEP or building systems consulting environment
- Direct project experience in mission critical (data center), healthcare, and/or life sciences facility design
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain reciprocity
- Strong working knowledge of fire suppression system design, clean agent/gaseous suppression (for data centers and labs), and fire alarm/mass notification systems
- Familiarity with hazardous materials management, cleanroom, and process safety requirements common to life sciences projects
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS, Elite Fire)
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards: NFPA 13, 72, 92, 99, 101, 2001, IBC, and Massachusetts state building/fire code
- Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting to clients, AHJs, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Based in or willing to work on-site in the Boston area
Nice to Have
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation
- Experience with performance-based design and fire modeling
- Prior experience managing junior engineering staff or serving as a project lead
