Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

What you will do

Safety by monitoring and evaluating environmental, health and safety conditions; assuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures and governmental standards; and maintenance.

Responsibilities

How you will do it

  • Be knowledgeable in JCI Best Business Practices and incorporate in programs.
  • Educate, motivate and train personnel in good housekeeping practices, safe work procedures, PPE, etc.
    • Engaging the entire work force both salary and hourly to drive cultural change and accomplishing safety performance objectives and targets.
    • Performing job hazard analysis and ergonomic risk assessments and creating action plans to reduce risk.
    • Performing incident investigations using an 8D process, with the focus on root cause, corrective and preventive actions and verification.
    • Maintain safety matrix and data base to support all necessary safety training as outlined by JCI and OSHA standards.
    • Managing workers compensation and reducing costs by working closely with insurance carriers and state authorities, along with in-house supervisors and managers.  Works each claim from the accident report to return of the worker for modified duty and ultimately to claim closure.
    • Reviewing planned changes and new equipment prior to receipt through a Management of Change (MOC) process. Approves or recommends changes location/relocation of equipment, facilities, safety designs, and processes. Incorporate Design for Safety and Design for Environment principals.  Incorporate Design for Safety and Design for Environment principals.
  • Manage the campus personal protective equipment, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards and operating budget.
  • Develop and implement effective Test Lab programs for the identification, prevention and control of occupational injuries and illnesses using Hierarchy of Controls methodology.
  • Develop and coordinate Test Lab health and safety education, incentive and training programs.
  • Serve on the Test Lab safety committee as Co-Chairperson.
  • Maintain current awareness of applicable federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain legal, governmental and company environmental, health, and safety-related records according to standards, including confidentiality.
  • Maintain an accurate OSHA 300 log.
  • Accompany visiting inspectors and report findings.
  • Administer the campus hazard communication program, including maintaining up-to-date SDS's, effective identification and approval of all chemicals, chemical inventory and related training and education programs.
  • Review all testing and support operations to assure ongoing safety. Establishing safety performance metrics, both leading and lagging indicators.
  • Assist the business in developing risk assessments and safe operating procedures for all tasks and in investigating incidents.
  • Develop and implement audit programs to review and assure compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
  • Management and leadership style to support positive employee relations.
  • Coordinate and administer the Environmental Programs following corporate guidelines and Federal, State and Local requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

What we look for

  • Bachelor's degree required.  Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene or related field highly preferred.
  • Minimum six years of experience in a manufacturing/test or construction environment with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory/management role.
  • Previous experience in heavy industrial environment highly preferred.
  • Experience in accident investigation, analysis, and corrective action planning.
  • Experience with administering a hazardous communication program, including managing and leading an emergency response team.
  • Previous experience with OSHA, DEP, EPA, NFPA, DEP and MWRA regulations and compliance.
  • Highly effective and professional interpersonal skills
  • Experience preparing and presenting EHS trainings and recordkeeping.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be proactive, follow up and follow through to ensure safety compliance for regular activities as well as future projects.
