Job Description
Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Lansing, Arlington Township, or Milford Michigan three times per week, at minimum.
Role Overview
The Fire Prevention and Protection Specialist II is a senior-level role responsible for driving fire safety code compliance and engineering improvements across multiple GM sites. This position applies advanced fire protection engineering principles, influences organizational safety culture through collaboration, and is a major contributor to the development and revision of GM fire safety policies. The Fire Specialist II leads complex audits, tabletop exercises, and provides expert consultation during major projects.
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.The selected candidate will be required to travel on a regular basis (25-50%) for this role.This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.This position requires the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a regular basis. A company vehicle will only be provided for this role by passing the Motor Vehicle Report review.About GM

Responsibilities

- Apply engineering principles to improve fire protection system design and performance.
- Drive compliance of GM Fire requirements through influence across multiple sites, business units and stakeholders.
- Lead development and revision of corporate fire safety policies and standards based on updated regulations and building codes.
- Facilitate and lead tabletop exercises, improving emergency fire response, for complex operations.
- Provide expert consultation during major projects, including EV and high-risk areas.
- Use persuasive communication and leadership to foster a strong fire safety culture.
- Serve as a global subject matter expert for fire prevention and protection strategies.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- 5-7+ years of progressive experience in fire protection compliance and/or facilities management.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, ideally in Engineering or related field. Advanced Degree preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead policy development and influence organizational safety culture using globally recognized code (NFPA, FM, IBC, IFC, etc.).
- Expertise in fire protection system design and engineering controls.
- Strong leadership and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
