General Motors

Safety Modeling Engineer – Counterfactual & Behavioral Safety Modeling (GPSSC)

Job Description

May 11, 2026

Work arrangement : Remote: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of [Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View], you are expected to report to that location three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

The AV Safety Data Analytics team is building the next generation of quantitative safety modeling capabilities for automated driving systems. We are seeking a Safety Modeling Engineer to lead development of driver behavior models that establish human performance benchmarks and support safety evaluation.

In this role, you will integrate domain expertise to design and build statistical and machine learning models using large-scale real and simulated driving datasets to represent human driving behavior in safety-critical scenarios. You will define behavioral benchmarks, contribute to safety performance metrics, and integrate these models into evaluation pipelines used to support safety assessments and decision making across ADS programs.

This role requires strong analytical skills, modeling intuition, and practical judgment. You will shape how human reference behavior is represented and used across automated driving safety programs.

Impact

Your work will define how human driver behavior is modeled and used as a reference for automated driving safety, directly influencing safety benchmarks, evaluation methods, and product decision making.

“Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.”

GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE. DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU WILL NEED GM IMMIGRATION SPONSORSHIP (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
