Responsibilities
The U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS) is looking for temporary employees to work as Aircraft Attendants in Boise, ID at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).An Aircraft Attendant (WG-06)provides ground support for a variety of aircraft arriving and departing on an aircraft parking ramp. Will function as a fully qualified Red Card Fixed Wing Parking Tender (FWPT), or Ramp Manger (RAMP). Guides and marshals various types of aircraft in and out of ramp parking areas and secures aircraft. Safely operates support equipment during ground operation procedures to prevent injury to self and others as well as damage equipment and aircraft. May operate, position, connect, disconnect ground support equipment used to service various types aircraft and perform minor maintenance and repairs on ground support equipment. Follows manufacture's specifications, repairs and maintenance manuals in the proper removal, disassembly, repair and reassembly for ground support equipment and Sound Protective Helmets (SPH).For contact information and housing availability, visit Fire Contacts on the DOI FIRES website. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS: Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check. Failure to satisfy the background check will result in cancellation of offer of employment or may be grounds for termination.
DRUG TESTING: Positions require a mandatory pre-employment drug test. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received. The drug test will be provided at Government direction and expense. Once hired, employees are also subject to random drug testing during employment. This is in accordance with Executive Order 12564 and under the Department's Drug Free Workplace Program.
To work at the NIFC Ramp's Services Aircraft Operating Area (AOA), you are required to meet Transportation Security Administration and Boise airport's security and background checks. You must be able to obtain a Boise Airport General Aviation badge to have access to the NIFC AOA. If an employee cannot meet the requirements imposed by the agency, the employee will be removed from federal service.
FWPT and RAMP: Must possess current Red Card qualifications for Fixed Wing Parking Tender (FWPT) or Ramp Manger (RAMP) within 90 days of appointment.
Positions may require a valid state driver's license.
Qualifications
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in your resume.

To qualify for an Aircraft Attendant WG-06, you must have experience working with aircraft performing duties such as aircraft start-up, taxiing, and/or parking.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates.
You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
Physical Effort: According to the standard, Grade 6 aircraft attendants exert light to moderate physical effort while performing duties such as operating flightline vehicles (e.g., tugs and vans), uncoupling and making couplings between vehicles and towed equipment, and occasionally are required to lift objects in excess of 23 kilograms (50 pounds). The work requires frequent kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching, and climbing on and under aircraft. The subject position fully meets this level.
Work Conditions: According to the standard, Grade 6 aircraft attendants work outside and are exposed to all kinds of weather conditions. Aircraft attendants are exposed to the possibility of injury (e.g., electrical shocks, bruises, cuts, and burns) from auxiliary electrical equipment, falls from aircraft, hot brakes, moveable surface controls (e.g., speed brakes), pressurized liquids and gases, high levels of noise, rotating rotor blades, and jet engine intakes and exhausts. They follow safety regulations and use safety equipment to avoid possible hazards in the work area. The work of the subject position requires activities to be performed in an airport environment and the possibility of injury does exist from similarly stated conditions. As such, this position meets the WG-6 level under this factor.

Temporary employees hired in wildland fire or wildland fire support positions are eligible for the following:
-Annual, sick leave, and paid federal holidays
-Depending on tour of duty - Sunday, holiday, shift differential and/or hazard pay
-Participation in the Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB) program - Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles, which is deducted from bi-weekly earnings. After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option. Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
