This is an Endowed, union position within the UAW. The starting pay rate is $23.09/hour.

Responsibilities

With limited supervision, responsible for monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, testing of battery backup lighting, in compliance with appropriate regulations. Locations are within facilities across entire campus and nearby locations. Utilize hand held scanning devices to complete inspections. Notify supervisor of required corrective actions. Work with supervisor to define schedules.

Document discrepancies and changes to system assets including, asset locations on floor plans, asset labels, and device types. Communicate changes to supervisor for updating Maximo and in InspectNtrack. Incumbent must proactively stay current on the different types of emergency lighting units being used in the field and associated acceptable testing procedures. Incumbent must maintain key security at all times, be respectful of staff, student, and faculty member’s personal space and property, maintain confidentiality and be a good steward of the university’s resources.

Job Requirements

We require these qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in a related field (such as record keeping, performing inspections, extensive knowledge of the Cornell campus, performing inventory).
  • Basic proficiency English including reading, writing, math and verbal articulation.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal direction and read general floor plans.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and work on ladders and lifts as needed, and ability to walk long distances on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work in weather-related conditions of heat and cold.
  • This position is repetitive and redundant; incumbent must be willing to perform the same type of task every day with the attention to detail appropriate for emergency and life safety equipment.
  • Requires a high level of self-motivation and the ability to be accountable while working independently without a high level of supervision.
  • Safety conscious with the ability to climb 50’ ladders; able to work in a dusty/moldy/dirty environment.
  • Ability to comprehend and maintain a high level of security in all campus facilities.
  • Reliable transportation required; Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
