Job Description
A Union 669 Foreman position (Road Sprinkler Fitters) involves leading a crew installing, maintaining, and repairing fire sprinkler systems, requiring union membership, strong leadership, technical skill in NFPA codes, and often willingness to travel, overseeing apprentices, and ensuring safety/quality on projects. Responsibilities include blueprint reading, crew supervision, coordinating tasks, troubleshooting, documentation, and adhering to the union contract (CBA). They often handle recruitment, training, budget monitoring, and problem-solving to meet project goals.
Hourly Rate: $49.18 - 669 Base Rate Foreman

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Leadership: Lead and guide a team of journeymen and apprentices on job sites.
- Technical Expertise: Install, maintain, and repair various fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, foam, etc.).
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce OSHA and NFPA standards, ensuring all work meets codes (NFPA 13, 25) and regulations.
- Project Management: Read plans, manage timelines, coordinate logistics (materials, schedules), and report progress.
- Client & Team Communication: Liaise with clients, managers, and crew; train apprentices.

- Cut and install pipe, fittings and valves using saws, pipe cutter, hammer, hammer drill and chisel, torch and pipe cutting machine.
- Threads pipe, using pipe threading machine
- Bends pipe, using pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine
- Assembles and installs a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, fittings. Including iron, steel, copper and plastic.
- Connects pipes using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints and hand tools.
- Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps and hangers, using hand tools and power tools.
- Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders using hand tools.
- Increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system or leaks.
- May weld pipe supports structural steel members.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Union Membership: Must be a member or willing to join UA Local Union 669.
- Experience: Typically requires completion of the 5-year apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, blueprint reading, and teamwork.
- Physical: Ability to perform physical labor, potentially lifting heavy objects.
- Travel: Often requires travel, sometimes for extended periods away from home, as 669 covers "road" work.
- Ability to stay on feet all day
- Ability to lift/carry 50+ pounds with no fear of climbing or heights
- Ability to work overhead while holding heavy pipe for extended period of time
- Understand basic measurements, capability of learning to read construction drawings, plans
Physical Requirements
- Unionized: Governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with set wages and benefits.
- Mobile: Jobs can be nationwide, requiring travel.
- Full-Time: Generally full-time, Monday-Friday, but may involve on-call or overtime.
Certifications (Preferred)
- NICET Certification (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies).
- Fire suppression system certification (state-specific).
- OSHA 10, 17, 17A, 96,1 and 99 fire codes and building codes or OSHA 30 certification.
