The Sprinkler & Fire Suppression Engineer is responsible for developing accurate estimates, designs, and proposals for fire alarm, sprinkler, fire suppression, and detection system projects. This role analyzes plans, specifications, site conditions, and code requirements to determine project scope, equipment needs, and system layouts. Working closely with Account Executives and internal teams, the Estimator serves as a technical resource throughout the sales process, preparing design-build deliverables, technical documentation, and cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements and industry standards.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English, (ie see, hear, speak and write clearly) in order to communicate with colleagues and/or customers
  • Manual dexterity required for occasional reaching, lifting of light office objects, and operating office equipment
  • Sitting, standing, walking in office environments and construction sites
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)

Working Conditions

In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate
  • Will be required to be on site with customers or contractors, with or without BBT colleagues to manage the expectations and deliverables. Sites range from general office environments to new construction.
  • Driving to customer sites is required

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Advice on overall project requirements, including plan analysis, code requirements, review of plan specifications, and site visits.
  • Prepare project estimates, design proposals, and identify material and equipment needs.
  • Drive and manage the technology and evaluation stage of the sales process, working with Account Executives as the key technical advisor.
  • Travel to job sites for joint sales calls with Account Executives.
  • Coordinate closely with internal resources to review, understand, and implement designed solutions aligned with customers' business and bid requirements.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of plans, functional specifications, and site visits to determine and advise on project requirements.
  • Produce system layouts, diagrams, scope of work narratives, and other deliverables as part of the sales process.
  • Prepare design-build proposal deliverables, including system architecture diagrams, fire alarm devise layouts, equipment matrix, bills of materials, and subcontractor RFPs.
  • Create detailed technical documentation, including system specifications, project plans, and proposals.
  • Provide technical support during the pre-sales phase, addressing client inquiries, conducting product demonstrations, and resolving technical concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High School education and /or experience in the Security Life Safety industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in Fire Alarms installations and Programming.
  • Experience in configuring Fire Alarm Systems, Suppression Systems, Sprinkler Systems and Air Sampling Detection Systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering and low voltage installation principles related to building Fire Systems.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Installation and construction experience with a deep understanding of construction industry methods and costs.
  • Ability to travel locally to job sites for joint sales calls with Account Executives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Electrical Engineering and /or experience in the Security Life Safety industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in Sprinklers / Fire Suppression installations.
  • 2+ years' experience with Notifier.
  • Experience with Bluebeam.
  • Advanced proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Sprinklers / Fire Suppression.
  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 72 industry standards and building codes and best practices for Sprinklers / Fire Suppression.
  • Experience using additional software tools related to Sprinklers / Fire Suppression design.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in coordinating cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain key vendor and supplier relationships.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as NICET, VESDA etc.
  • Experience conducting in-depth analysis of plans, functional specifications, and site visits to determine project requirements.
  • Experience preparing design-build proposal deliverables and creating detailed technical documentation, including system specifications and project plans.
