

Vice President of Safety
Job Description
The Vice President of Safety is responsible for leading AMPAM’s enterprise-wide safety strategy and execution across all business units, regions, and trades. This role will drive a culture where safety is embedded in every aspect of operations—from pre-construction planning through project execution—ensuring the highest standards of safety performance across the organization.Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP of Safety serves as a key member of the leadership team, partnering closely with Operations, HR, Finance, and Field Leadership to promote accountability, reduce risk, and continuously improve safety outcomes.This is a highly visible leadership role requiring a strong balance of strategic thinking, field engagement, and operational execution.
Responsibilities
Safety Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement AMPAM’s enterprise safety strategy aligned with company goals and growth initiatives
- Establish clear safety standards, expectations, and accountability across all regions and trades
- Drive continuous improvement in safety performance and culture across the organization
Field Engagement & Culture
- Maintain a strong and consistent presence in the field to reinforce safety expectations and build credibility
- Partner with Field Leadership (Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers) to ensure safety ownership at all levels
- Promote a culture of proactive hazard identification, open communication, and accountability
- Lead initiatives that recognize and reinforce safe behaviors
Operational Integration
- Collaborate with Operations to integrate safety into all phases of project delivery, including:
- Pre-construction planning
- Job setup and execution
- Project reviews and closeout
- Ensure safety considerations are embedded early in project planning to minimize risk
Incident Management & Risk Reduction
- Oversee all incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis
- Ensure timely and effective response to incidents across all regions
- Identify trends and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Partner with Claims & Legal Operations to support incident-related claims and litigation
Compliance & Systems
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations (including OSHA)
- Develop and maintain scalable safety systems, processes, and reporting tools
- Standardize safety practices across all regions to support organizational alignment
- Continuously evaluate and improve safety programs and procedures
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing safety organization across all regions
- Establish clear roles, expectations, and accountability within the safety team
- Mentor and develop future safety leaders
- Ensure consistency and alignment across regional safety teams
Executive Reporting & Accountability
- Provide regular reporting to the CEO and executive leadership on:
- Safety performance metrics
- Incident trends
- Key risks and mitigation strategies
- Establish and track KPIs to measure safety performance and improvement
- Hold operational leaders accountable for safety outcomes within their areas
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in construction or a related industry
- Proven experience leading safety across multiple regions and large-scale operations
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices
- Demonstrated success in improving safety performance and building safety culture
- Experience partnering closely with field operations and project teams
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Job Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), or specialty contracting
- Experience in a high-growth or multi-entity organization
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHST preferred
