
Fire Protection Inspector
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Life Safety & Fire Protection Code Consultant to conduct on-site code compliance assessments within healthcare facilities. This position involves traveling to hospitals to evaluate existing buildings for compliance with life safety and fire protection codes, documenting deficiencies, and producing accurate, well-organized deliverables that support compliance and corrective action.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $33.65/hr.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Travel to hospital and healthcare facilities to conduct on-site life safety and fire protection code compliance reviews.
- Review architectural drawings, building design documents, and life safety plans to understand existing building features and code-required elements.
- Inspect building conditions in the field and identify features that do not comply with applicable life safety and fire protection codes.
- Photograph observed code deficiencies and clearly document each violation with written descriptions tied to the supporting images.
- Compile findings into organized documentation that communicates code issues clearly and professionally.
- Color-code and label life safety and fire protection drawings to accurately reflect required code elements and observed conditions.
Job Requirements
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in construction design, planning, and fire protection design.
- Expertise in life safety and building inspection.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings.
- Experience with life safety system inspection.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- A degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Strong communication skills for direct interaction with contractors and clients.
- Willingness to travel, typically one week out and then one week in the office, with some projects requiring up to two weeks of travel.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, access tight spaces, and move effectively throughout healthcare facilities.
Work Environment
The role involves both fieldwork and office work. Travel is structured for one week out in the field followed by one week in the office, with occasional extended travel for larger projects. Travel and costs are covered, and mileage is reimbursed at the government rate. The work environment is quiet and relaxed, located on the west side of Indianapolis in a business park. Projects are often worked on in pairs to ensure accuracy, and the team is known for its expertise and collaborative spirit.
